Still to Come in Summer 2015

Still to Come in Summer 2015

10th July 2015

So far in the summer blockbuster season, which pretty much begins in March, we've had Fast 7, Avengers 2, Mad Max and Jurassic World. Amongst those we've had plenty of blockbuster fun, a tender delivery of the feels and an insane deliverance of nutters.

This may seem like the big hitters have come and gone until the winter blockbusters start landing (Hunger Games/Star Wars etc) but I'm about to fill you in on a few more worthy releases over the next few months.

First up is Ant-Man. Finally. The Marvel release we expected to be underwhelmed by. He's called Ant-Man for God's sake. Initial word on it has actually flipped this a bit by saying it's rather good. I'm still trying to keep my expectations quite tempered just in case. Paul Rudd as our new superhero is due July 17th.

Also due then is a James Franco and Jonah Hill film called True Story. Franco is a convict and Hill is the journalist who's identity Franco has stolen. It seems to be a serious vehicle for the duo and looks mightily interesting as they both have the acting chops.

Pixar's latest creation, Inside Out, may have landed elsewhere in the world but don't get it til July 24th. It's about the controlling emotions inside each of our heads. I think this will deliver an emotional touch but with plenty of fun throughout. Fingers crossed. Also looking forward to the accompanying short called Lava.

Those pictures of Jake Gyllenhaal looking ripped and terrifying are from his latest film, boxing pic Southpaw. I'll watch this man act in anything so I'm 100% up for this and everyone loves a good boxing film, also due July 24th.

On the 30th July we get Mission Impossible 5, subtitled Rogue Nation. Tom Cruise as Ethan Matthew Hunt (same first two names as myself, thought I've a few years on the first film) returns. They are to face off against an 'anti-IMF' blah blah blah but Cruise hung off a bloody plane for this so that's what I'm in it for.

Famously troubled and coming on August 6th is the Fantastic 4. Stars Miles Teller as Mr Fantastic. It no longer has Jessica Alba unfortunately but Sue Storm is now Kate Mara. Directed by Josh Trank who also did Chronicle and who has recently been booted off one of the Star Wars anthology films. The film looks dark, broody and really boring yet I'm still interested to see how it turns out. I just hope the trailers have left out the good stuff.

Man from UNCLE is due on the 14th August and it involves Guy Ritchie directing Superman as a 60's spy. I'm down for that. It's also got Armie Hammer (the twins from Social Network) as another spy. It looks like it'll be an exciting, witty vintage spy movie which would be massive fun.

Also due that day is Trainwreck. It's a Judd Apatow backed film that stars Amy Schumer (who also wrote it). She seems to be the comedian in vogue at the minute and other than a chat show appearance, I've seen nothing from her but she seems to be pretty damn popular so I like the idea of being hopeful for a comedy but unsure of what her brand of humour is. It also stars Bill Hader who is always fun.

Paper Towns hits cinemas on the 17th August and it seems to be gunning for the Faults In Our Stars audience which surprisingly includes me as that film worked for me. It's based on a book written by the same guy, John Green and it stars Cara Delevingne, the supermodel/actress and this marks her biggest role to date. She'll also be in the upcoming Suicide Squad too but more on that another time. This film will have some of the teen angst you expect, likely mixed with interesting characters, a few quirks and a tear or two.

This next one will likely pass most people by but as I love the games, I still withhold a little hope that this latest movie version can be even a little bit good. Hitman: Agent 47 has Rupert Friend as the titular baldie assassin. I don't know the plot and I haven't seen the trailer but I doubt the film will be too surprising. It's due on August 27th for anyone interested.

American Ultra hits a day later, starring Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart, is a film that I don't know what to make of it. It features stoners as government agents so I presume it is intended to be funny but we'll see in due course.

This takes us to the end of August and allows me a breather as I've filled you all in for a while at least. Hope it's been informative enough and helped you fill out some of your calenders for the next few weeks! Til next time, See ya!

Northern-Irish based movie review website that gives a platform to aspiring local film-critics to share their thoughts on the latest cinematic releases.

About Us:

Embarr Films was created by myself, Ethan Barr, as somewhere to share film views with local film lovers.

It all began in the early days of 2013 with a Twitter account. I used that account to post my film views and often tweeted little film reviews confined to those 140-character bubbles. We have since expanded and now also have a Facebook page where we're also happy for you to get in touch and share your thoughts!

I built this website myself from scratch in summer 2013 just to give Embarr Films a bigger web presence. Make sure to check out our Reviews and Views pages before you go and don't hesitate to get in touch!
